How to choose the right floor mats for your car

The three types of floor mats

Every mat on DMR falls into one of three fitment types. Knowing which one you are looking at is the first step.

• Universal mats fit most cars. They are cut to standard shapes and sizes, so they will cover the floor but may not hug every curve of the footwell.
• Brand-wide mats are designed around the floor of a whole brand's lineup. They fit better than universal mats but are not specific to one model.
• Custom-fit mats are built for one specific car model and year range. They follow the contours of the footwell, including the heel pad and the transmission tunnel.

What to check before you buy

1. Find your car in the Shop by Car picker and note the exact model and year range.
2. Check the mat's fitment on its product page — it will list the brands, models and years it covers.
3. Decide what you need the mat to do: protect against mud and water (rubber), add a premium feel (carpet-style), or both.

A quick comparison

If your car is not listed under a mat's fitment, it will not be a perfect fit. Brand-wide and universal options are the safe choice in that case.
